Bob Cotgreave is all about fast. His new deli at 84 Society Street is decked out in a NASCAR theme with a spark plug chandelier and a menu of cleverly named items like the Grease Monkey, the Crew Chief, the Sandbagger, and the Sling Shot. But it’s not just about fast cars at the Pit Stop Deli. It’s about fast food with a healthy twist.

Cotgreave and his wife Alison want to provide clean, delicious food in a New York minute, so downtown workers with only a few minutes to spare don’t have to sacrifice nutrition for speed. Cotgreave says he discovered his passion for cooking at the young age of 5 and has worked in restaurants around the country for the past 15 years, ranging from casual to fine dining.

Pit Stop Deli sandwiches feature locally-made bread from the Ashley Bakery and organic produce and preservative-free deli meats. Or you can go meat-free with combos like the V-8 with roasted eggplant, zucchini, and squash with caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, sprouts, lettuce, tomato, and feta cheese in a spinach wrap .

Prices range from $5 to $10. The Cotgreaves say they will be ready to open the doors Oct. 13 or 14th for a soft opening and are planning their grand opening for Thurs. Oct. 18.
