[image-1]Eugene Platt purchased 2,380 stamps today as part of his annual support of the U.S. Post Office’s breast cancer research stamps. The stamps are sold at a premium, with the proceeds used to fight the disease. This will be Platt’s sixth visit, as he lays down $1,309 for the stamps. He began the annual purchase in 2003, the year his wife died from the disease.
The stamps have according to a USPS press release.
To date, the stamp has raised over $62.8 million for breast cancer research; 826.9 million have been sold. By law, 70 percent of the net amount raised is given to the National Institutes of Health and 30 percent is given to the Medical Research Program at the Department of Defense.
