The Village Playhouse hosted their annual holiday fundraising gala at Alhambra Hall in the Old Village of Mt. Pleasant Wednesday night. After a crazy warm December day, the cool breeze from the harbor helped arriving guests feel a little more festive. We were greeted with a tray of pink champagne at the door (a delightful start, for sure), then headed upstairs for the party. The crowd was a mix of familiar faces from the repertory and long-time supporters — the Playhouse has been bringing theater to the community for nine years. VP regulars like Joe Clarke and Emily Wilhoit performed throughout the night, while guests moseyed around checking out the eclectic selection of items up for silent auction — everything from artwork to flying lessons to a tacky-yet-popular flip-flop-shaped memo board. Chefs from East Cooper restaurants Five Loaves, Red Drum, Bacco, and others provided plenty of food for the crowd — Bacco’s cheesy lasagna was our favorite — and the drinks were flowing as well. If you couldn’t make it out to support the theater on Thursday, you can still go about it the old-fashioned way: check out a show. Shipwrecked is playing at the Playhouse through Dec. 31 — read our review here.
