Charleston police arrested a North Charleston man this morning in connection with a shooting that took place on Charleston’s East Side on Thursday.

Joshua Robinson, 29, of Ranger Drive (who goes by the nickname “Stacks”), is charged with the murder of 23-year-old Maliek Lamar Byers, of America Street. Authorities have still released scant few details about the shooting, although Chief Gregory Mullen said in a press conference today that police believe the shooting “had a drug nexus.”

According to an incident report, police were dispatched to 6-A Hanover St. at 2:32 a.m. on June 14 after someone reported that shots had been fired in the area. When the officers arrived, they found Byers “collapsed on the stairs leading up to apartment A” with three possible gunshot wounds in his back.

Robinson will have a bond hearing at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
