Last November, our cover story highlighted several local designers who were recruited to try out for the show. Although the folks we interviewed didn’t make the cut, two Charleston-based designers did: Gordana Gehlhausen and Carol Hannah Whitfield. Mitchell Hall of Savannah is also among the 16 contestants.
Both Gehlhausen and Whitfield recently moved away from Charleston to San Diego and New York, respectively. (A sad reflection on the lack of fashion opportunities in town, perhaps?) Still, we can express some pride, as the gals have strong ties to the local fashion community — Gehlhausen owns the King Street shop Goga, and Whitfield was a finalist in the 2008 Emerging Local Designer Competition.
According to the Associated Press, a settlement was announced in April in which NBC Universal said it would be paid by Weinstein for the right to move the show to Lifetime.
“Season six takes place in Los Angeles, where celebrities such as Christina Aguilera and Lindsay Lohan will make cameos during challenges,” the AP reports. “The panel of chic remains: Heidi Klum as host/judge, flanked by mentor Tim Gunn and judges Nina Garcia and Michael Kors.”
