[image-1] Publix, the Florida-based grocery powerhouse that has mythologized the process of stuffing a loaf of bread with breaded chicken, will finally open its first location on the Charleston peninsula at 10 Westedge St.
Spokeswoman Kim Reynolds says customers will be able to peruse the aisles starting at 7 a.m. on Wed. March 13.
The 52,606 square-foot store will also feature a pharmacy, according to Publix’s website.
The supermarket is likely to be the main storefront on the ground floor of 10 Westedge, a forthcoming 570-apartment building on the corner of Spring Street and Lockwood Boulevard. On Thursday, Mt. Pleasant real estate agency WRS, Inc. announced that it had leased ground floor retail space to AT&T.
Apartments in the building have no leasing or opening dates, according to a development staffer reached by phone Tuesday afternoon. The supermarket was originally scheduled to open last year, along with the rest of 10 Westedge, as part of a 50-acre development effort in the Westside neighborhood.
South City Partners and Gateway Development will oversee 10 WestEdge upon completion, according to the Post & Courier.
While you wait for mid-March to roll around, feel free to mindlessly refresh this website to see whether or not chicken tender subs are on sale at any of the other Charleston-area locations.
