DOGS AT THE POINT
This week, Charleston roots combo The Blue Dogs celebrate the release of a new 17-song concert album titled Live at Workplay Theatre (Black River). Recorded in Jan. ’05 at the Birmingham, Ala. concert venue, the album features in-concert versions of songs from previous albums as well as several previously unreleased songs. JOHN-JOHN ON NEW CD
Hip-hop artist and drummer Johnny “John-John” Glanton, a Charleston native now based in Boston, has a home-spun track with a “Dirty South” vibe titled “Carolina Boyz” featured in a newly-released compilation titled Dorm Sessions Volume 3
. The disc was released by Berklee College of Music’s student-run label Heavy Rotation Records, featuring nine artists from around the U.S. Glanton, a Berklee alumnus, is supported by a five-piece band. He recently produced and released his debut album, All I Do.

On the heels of a big album release show last month at the Music Farm, local rock quintet Number One Contender left last week for a tour across the South in support of the new album The Album Ã¢â‚¬â€ including a stop in Orlando on May 19 for a showcase at the Florida Music Festival (www.floridamusicfestival.com) alongside a slew of regional rock and pop bands.
