The Sustainability Institute is hosting the third annual TrySports Green Village Tour 8K race and 5K walk on Sat., April 18. The race begins at 8 a.m. in the neighborhood of Park Circle in North Charleston and ends at Mixson. This is a green event through the use of minimal paper registration, off-set carbon buses, race shirts made from organic cotton, and more. There will also be VIP parking for carpoolers. Serious runners may be timed on the certified course, but this is also a family-friendly and dog-friendly race. You can register at TrySports in Mt. Pleasant or online. All participants get a free ticket to the Charleston Battery season home opener. Registration closes at 5 p.m. today. Kids 16 and under and dogs race free.

On the other side of town, the East Cooper Coastal Triathlon takes place on Sun., April 19 starting at 7:30 a.m. It spans the Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, and Mt. Pleasant with a .6 mile swim, 16 mile bike, and four mile run. Participants will swim parallel to the shore on IOP, bike across the connector to Mt. P then back to Sullivan’s Island, then run back to IOP. There will be no race-day registration. —Emma Hart
