Restaurateur Ray Waldrup is in business in Mt. Pleasant. While the yellow-painted “Ray’s BBQ” sign has been standing in front of the newly-renovated building for a few months, a crop of white “Now Open” sings finally popped up along the sidewalk in last week. [image-1]Located at 440 W. Coleman Boulevard (in the old SoCal Burrito/Red Pepper Squirrel building near Shem Creek), Ray’s BBQ specializes in hickory-smoked pork and chicken. They chop each pork order on the line right in front of the customer.[image-2]The menu also features smoked chicken, and rib plates, smoked brisket and ground chuck chili, sliders, hot dogs, deviled egg potato salad, hand-cut fries, jalapeño/gouda mac ’n’cheese, and two house-made cole slaws — a traditional mayo-based slaw and a sweet, zesty vinegar-based slaw with shredded carrots and sweet pickles. They’re open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Call (843) 216-5373 for more.
