It looks like this year’s Skinful Halloween is going to be as funky as ever. The New Orleans-based Rebirth Brass Band are scheduled to bring a mix of funk, hip-hop, and trad-brass jams as the event headliner on Sat. Oct. 23.

Formed in 1983 by the Frazier brothers — tuba player Phis Frazier and bass drummer Keith Frazier — the Rebirth Brass Band evolved from playing the streets of the French Quarter to playing festivals and stages all over the world. “Rebirth is committed to upholding the tradition of brass bands while at the same time incorporating modern music into their show,” they state on their press release.

The Halloween party will take place at the Brick House Kitchen grounds on James Island (1575 Folly Road) with dancing and music on several stages. It’s BYOB, plus beer and wine will be available from Brick House (no liquor allowed).

Additional acts on the bill include Pimps of Joytime, Torture Town, Space Invaders, Jake B, Rocky Horror, and others. The party will also features break dance troops, exotic dancers, aerialists, and a fun zone including jump castles and a mechanical bull. Off-site parking and shuttle services will be available.

Skinful starts at 8 p.m. Admission is $40 (VIP tickets are available for $80). A portion of the proceeds benefit the Roper St. Francis Ryan White Program. Visit skinfulhalloween.com and myspace.com/rebirthbrassband for more.
