Last January, the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association packed dining rooms all over town for Restaurant Week, a city-wide event that encouraged participants to offer special menus and pricing. People went crazy for the deals —many offered either three courses for $30 or three courses for $20 — and plenty of restaurants extended the deal to last the entire month of January.
Instead of waiting until next January to do it again, the GCRA has plans to launch another Restaurant Week from September 8-19. Already more than 50 restaurants have signed up and there’s still time to participate if you have a restaurant of your own.
Visit charlestonrestaurantweek.com for a look at the menus that have already been set. Amen Street is offering the three course for $30 deal with items like the flounder ceviche and the shrimp corndogs making an appearance. Red Drum’s menu keeps it simple with a choice of soup or salad, skirt steak or chicken breast, and doughnuts for dessert. Their menu includes a glass of red or white wine too. McCrady’s has a two-choice per course menu. We’d go straight for the shrimp and okra stew, the grouper with nasturtium jus, and the buttermilk chess pie. Just sayin’.
At Social you can get an heirloom tomato salad, a hanger steak, and a triple chocolate mousse for $20. Or, if you don’t like that combo, you can get mussels for your first course and choose pan-seared scallops or Thai shrimp scampi for your entree. Now that’s a fine deal. Over at Poogan’s Porch, their three courses for $20 deal will get you a classic Southern supper with choices like blackened catfish, pan-fried pork chops, fried green tomatoes, buttermilk fried chicken, and mac and cheese.
