A tough economic year didn’t stop revelers from partaking in one of the Lowcountry’s top-dollar parties this New Year’s Eve. Snyder’s Grand Ball at the Aquarium, arguably one of the most glam NYE parties around, didn’t seem to have any trouble finding folks willing to shell out $125 for an evening with the fishes. Not only that, but compared to last year’s crowd, this year’s guests truly strutted their stuff, many of the men decked out in tuxes, with sparkling sequins being the theme of the night for most of the ladies.
Outside of the entrance, partiers huddled for warmth around glowing blue mushroom-like heaters while keeping close to the nearby open bar. The evening’s blue moon shone on the harbor, while inside Quiana Parler performed a mix of favorite songs that got dancers on the floor early on, and even a few up on stage.
Farther into the building, a second dance floor was set up in front of the Great Ocean Tank where DJ Natty Heavy provided an entirely different vibe for anyone seeking a more club-like setting. While we appreciated the option, the serious dancers seemed to congregate around Quiana, while drunk fratty types bustin’ goofy moves lorded over the “Shark Tank.”
As the night wore on, girls started teetering in their sky-high New Year’s heels, and a few even kicked them off before the champagne made the rounds. Double fisting flutes, sloshing bubbly, and some pissed-off fish characterized our countdown to a new decade. We hope you had a fun time, too.
