With “So Gay” behind us, South Carolina is again in the national spotlight — this time for a scandalous robocall in a State Senate race intended to drive conservative voters away from the Democratic candidate.

South Carolina is, of course, already well know for the nasty robocalls against John McCain in the 2000 campaign that has been single-handedly blamed for sabotaging his chances against George Bush.

This time, the calls are from the fake Alliance for the Advancement of Gays and Lesbians which praises Democrat Mandy Powers Norrell for her support of gay marriage and abortion.

Rea Carey, executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Action Fund, said she’s never heard of the Alliance for the Advancement of Gays and Lesbians.

“I would say this type of gay baiting has no place in modern politics,” Carey said.

Unfortunately “modern politics” has nothing to do with South Carolina.
