Loveday is also president of the national Association of State Democratic Executive Directors, an organization housed within the DNC. She’ll leave that position once she starts her new job.

Hired by former S.C. Democratic Party chair Dick Harpootlian, Loveday has served as director of the state party for three years. “I am honored to join the office of Congressman Jim Clyburn and am looking forward to continue my efforts with the S.C. Democratic Party in a different position,” she says. “I will still work hard to elect Democrats in 2014 but will be doing so by playing a different role.”

Party officials alerted members of the state party’s executive committee about the move two weeks ago, Loveday says. So far, the SCDP has accepted several applications, and Loveday says she won’t leave until a new director is hired.

She’ll be filling the position of longtime Clyburn spokeswoman Hope Derrick, who left to work in communications at the University of South Carolina at the end of last year.
