What you need to know about pending hate crime legislation will be the topic at the Alliance for Full Acceptance‘s July meeting, held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Renaissance Charleston Hotel on Wentworth.

With Hate Crimes legislation on the horizon in both the federal and state legislatures, we are already being bombarded by the religious right: hate crimes legislation is nothing more than another item to be checked off on the “gay agenda.” It is “just an attempt by the thought police to punish unpopular thought and speech.”

Want to find out what is at the heart of hate crimes legislation and who is protected under it? Want to meet the legislators sponsoring it and community leaders supporting it? Want to hear from the family of Sean Kennedy from Greenville who died in May after being assaulted because he was gay, and what one family is doing to turn tragedy into hope?

Here’s the legislation.
