Phase 1b of South Carolina’s vaccine rollout plan began Monday with doses now available to individuals 55 years old and up.

Teachers, essential workers such as grocery store employees, people working in settings with increased risk including homeless shelters and correctional facilities and people between ages 16-54 who have an increased risk of contracting the virus are also now eligible.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) announced another 562 positive cases out of 20,552 test results on Monday, making 3.7% of tests positive.

DHEC announced at the beginning of March that more than one million vaccines had been administered.

According to the department’s vaccine dashboard, 18.8% of state residents have started vaccination while 10.4% have completed the vaccination process.
