South Carolina has now had over 300,000 cases of COVID-19, according to new numbers released Tuesday from the state Department of Health and Environmental Control.

DHEC announced another 2,285 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 12 deaths related to the virus Jan. 5. With 10,232 tests reported today, 30.7% were positive.

The cumulative number of positive COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday was 302,003, with 22,692 in Charleston County.

The Phase 1a of the timeline for vaccinations is already underway, and Phase 1b is projected to be underway by the end of winter. Phase 1a includes medical workers and 1b will give the vaccine to frontline essential workers. Vaccines are expected to be available to the public sometime during the summer or fall.
