State ranks 2nd in U.S. for COVID infections in children, report shows

A state-by-state report by The American Academy of Pediatrics shows South Carolina as No. 2 in the nation for number of COVID cases in children.

With 191,920 cumulative cases, South Carolina is one of 12 states reporting more than 150,000 cases in children.

And the state also sits higher than the national average when it comes to the overall percentage of cases of COVID-19 in people age 0-20 years old, 23% compared to 16%.

The data from the AAP/CHA report was collected from June 2021 through September 2021.

Latest COVID-19 data

South Carolina health officials reported 2,147 total cases of COVID-19 Sept. 30, with 1,514 confirmed. A total of 107 new deaths, with 103 confirmed, were also reported Thursday.

With 20,788 tests reported, 10.4% were confirmed positive.

Percentage of S.C. residents who have completed vaccination: 52.0%
