Situated in the heart of downtown on the corner of King and Market streets, Sermet’s Corner serves Mediterranean fare with a side of people-watching. And while a Jake Gyllenhaal celebrity sighting may be enjoyable, a group of tourists struggling to manage their shopping bags isn’t so much. After 15 years at the King Street location, chef and owner Sermet Aslan wants to serve some food in a more tranquil environment.
“I don’t want people to eat in an environment, I want them to eat with their environment,” he says.
The result is Sermet’s Courtyard. Located on Daniel Island in the former Brewer’s Bistro space, it’s an area with considerably less hustle and bustle. Don’t fret, Sermet’s Corner will remain open, but Aslan is excited for the quieter locale.
“Environment is important, and this is exactly the location I’ve been looking for. It’s incredibly serene,” he says.
Sermet’s Courtyard plans to offer many of the dishes that’s made him a favorite downtown, including trademark crab cakes, encrusted salmon, and calamari, though the chef plans to expand the dinner menu with the additions of steaks and other entrees. The restaurant will be open daily for lunch and dinner. You can experience the tranquility yourself soon, as Aslan hopes to have the restaurant open later this month.
