From the release:

Shopping with Friends, the annual fundraiser for Lowcountry AIDS Services (LAS), is celebrating its fifth year of guilt free shopping for a great cause. Over 125 of the Lowcountry’s most prestigious local and national stores have once again pledged to give 10 percent of their sales on Saturday, December 6 to LAS.

“We are so grateful to our Red Ribbon Retailers,” says Karen Siegel, founder and co-chair of the event.  “In this time of economic uncertainty and tightened purse strings, our non-profit organizations have been hard hit. Shopping with Friends provides a unique opportunity to support a vital cause without taking even a penny out of your budget. Just make Saturday, December 6 your designated holiday shopping day and our generous Red Ribbon Retailers will make the donation for you.”

Shopping with Friends begins with a kick-off party on Friday evening, December 5th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Saks Fifth Avenue on King Street. Come in and shop while sipping cocktails and enjoying delicious hors d’oeuvres from the kitchen of Tristan’s award winning chef, Aaron Deal. Ten percent of every dollar you spend will go to LAS. And you will leave with a fabulous gift from legendary fragrance designer Jo Malone.

The excitement continues on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to Noon at the official Shopping with Friends brunch held at the beautiful Riviera at Charleston Place. Hosted by Elle Magazine, Charleston Magazine and Lacoste, this full champagne brunch is every fashionista’s dream. Bid on original artwork by world renowned fashion designers including Tory Burch and Badgley Mischka. Win a trip to New York with front row seats to the Tyra Banks Show. Or watch the US Open from the luxurious Lacoste sponsor box this Fall. Visit Charleston Magazine’s style editor Ayoka Lucas in her jeans clinic to find the perfect pair of jeans for your figure. And leave with an over the top swag bag of goodies provided by Elle Magazine. Tickets are $45, and include your chance to win one of Elle Magazine’s five “must haves” for Fall 2008.

South Carolina ranks ninth in the nation per capita for newly infected HIV/AIDS cases. In its first four years, Shopping with Friends has raised over $500,000 for LAS. Bradley Childs, executive director of LAS says, “Shopping with Friends is so important for Lowcountry AIDS Services. The organization has seen massive cuts in federal funding. The nearly $100,000 per year that Shopping with Friends brings us has literally saved lives. I can’t begin to express my appreciation to the Shopping with Friends committee, our Red Ribbon Retailers and all of the caring shoppers who support them each year.”

Lowcountry AIDS Services is a nonprofit 501C3 social service agency serving people infected with HIV/AIDS in the Tri-county area. It provides support groups, financial assistance, case management, legal services, and education to more than 700 clients every year.
