Warren Peper, the popular local news anchor who was shown the door earlier this month by News Channel 2, has joined The Post and Courier staff as a multimedia producer, according to a news release on the paper’s website (What? No video?).

The real surprise comes in the comments of Dan Herres, president of The Evening Post Newspaper Group.

“He comes at a time when our newspaper and our company are expanding our franchise as the dominant and trusted media company in this market.”

That’s our bold up there. Expanding?! The paper dropped Garden and Gun magazine in January and laid off 25 employees weeks ago — and that was after several voluntary buyouts last year. If the paper is expanding, it’s doing more with less.

As we prepare for this year’s Best of Charleston, I thought I’d throw in a link to last year’s list that includes Peper’s win for Best Local TV Anchor.
