Urban street meets mesmerizing reality as two celebrated local artists join together to host what should be an epic opening reception. Photographer BadJon, aka Jonathan Stout, and graffiti/mixed media artist SHT! will be at the 16 Penny Gallery inside 52.5 Records to show off their new work on Sat., Feb. 6.

Opening night will feature tasty appetizers from everyone’s favorite underground gourmands Guerrilla Cuisine and music from DJ Rocky Horror and DJ High Horse.

If you don’t recognize their names from the hugely popular Presents from Punks show back in December, you might recognize SHT! from the various stencils scrawled on walls around downtown Charleston, namely “Big Boy.” He specializes in urban art, but will also be showcasing some mixed media and screen prints. Stout is a photographer, and City Paper contributor, whose signature is his haunting infrared pictures, a technique he says he had to tinker with to get the effect looking like it does now. His still-life photographs are just as gripping. For this show, Stout’s photographs will be adhered onto large wooden panels for a more textured and unique look.

The show will be on view at 561 King Street through March. Call (843) 722-3525 for more info.
