Sightsee Shop will host a small business Saturday pop-up featuring food from Mama Ana’s Arepas and healing beverages from Lion’s Tooth Apothecary. The downtown shop will be open for coffee and baked goods, and both vendors will set up outside from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Sightsee co-owners Joel Sadler and Allyson Sutton operated as a mobile coffee bar before a successful Kickstarter campaign led to the opening of Sightsee in September 2019. Collaborating with these female-owned small businesses is a way to give back to the community that helped open their shop, Sutton said.
“Sightsee got its start thanks to other small businesses inviting us to do pop-ups before we landed in our brick-and-mortar location on Line Street,” Sutton said. “It’s been our mission since opening to leverage our space as a place to build community and spotlight other small businesses whenever we can.”
Mama Ana’s Arepas owner Ana Alexandra has visited breweries throughout the Lowcountry since launching her Colombian pop-up this summer, serving the cornmeal cakes she grew up eating on trips to her mother’s hometown just outside of Cali, Colombia. Lion’s Tooth Apothecary founder Annie Doran sells herbal teas, bitters and tinctures and offers a catering bar service featuring ethically-sourced non-alcoholic drinks.
“Both Ana and Annie are regular customers of ours, and we’re really excited to showcase their talents on Small Business Saturday,” Sutton said.
Small Business Saturday was originally started by American Express in 2010 as a way to encourage holiday shoppers to buy local.
