The Post and Courier’s Andy Paras is reporting that an alleged intoxicated driver hit a pedestrian outside of the annual Skinful Halloween party.

Here’s what the P&C says:

The victim was taken to the Medical University Hospital with life-threatening injuries following the 3:13 a.m. incident on Folly Road near South Grimball Road, Maj. Jim Brady said. The man’s name was not released.

The paper adds:

A witness who asked not to be identified said it happened as many of the Skinful participants were leaving the party. The impact threw the victim as high as 12-feet into the air, he said.

This year’s Skinful took place at the Brick House Kitchen on Folly Road on James Island, the same location as last year’s party.

According to Skinful’s website, no coolers were allowed at the event, but there was a cash bar.

The party has typically been hosted each year by Mt. Pleasant veterinarian Brian King.

In 2007, members of a James Island neighborhood criticized the event because the Halloween bash encouraged attendees to go “as nude as you dare,” according to the P&C.

The P&C report does not note if either the victim or the man charged with felony DUI attended the party.

City Paper contributor Stratton Lawrence was at Skinful covering the event for the paper. He says that he was leaving the Halloween party an estimated 45 minutes after the accident and that traffic was blocked on Folly Road. He spoke with a security guard who saw the accident and told him what happened. “There were hundreds of people filing out of the party into the shuttles, and no one had any idea it had happened,” Lawrence says, “We got on the bus to the parking lot where we’d left our car … No one on it was talking about the accident or even seemed to be aware of it.”

Update, Mon. Oct. 24

According to Maj. Jim Brady of the Charleston Sheriff’s Department, an incident report about the accident has yet to be completed and officers are still investigating the accident. Brady says that officers have not been able to confirm if either or both parties involved in the accident were at Skinful Halloween.
