We’re a week in and we’ve been horribly out of the loop on Statehouse activity (you know, with the state soon selecting the next president of the United States and all that). But this peaked our interest. The House Judiciary Committee will be weighing two smoking bills on Tuesday that seem to be heading in different directions.
An amendment to the first, S103, would impact the smoking ordinances that are already in place on Sullivan’s Island and in the City of Charleston. The other, S369, would prevent adults from smoking in a car with a child younger than 10 in the car.
As we pointed out in our legislative preview, a smoking ban ban is a pretty hot potato to throw around in an election year. As for the adult driver smoking ban, I can imagine true pains in enforcement that could sideline that one as well.
