[image-6]Yesterday we got to check out the space at Meeting at Market (120 Market St.), downtown’s newest sports pub, located in the shops at Belmond Charleston Place. With a projected opening just weeks away, Meeting at Market — which falls under the ownership umbrella of Belmond Charleston Place’s various shops and restaurants — hopes to appeal to both tourists and hotel guests.

The space includes 16 TVs — it is a sports bar, after all — with eight 72-inch screens and eight 55-inch ones. There will be seating room for 90, with 18 seats at the bar. Behind the bar are clear glass cases for featured kegs, which General Manager Matthew Gaetz says will often be local brews. In addition to the kegs, Meeting and Market will offer 20 beers on tap and 24 different bottles and cans.

“People are going to see the space and come to it,” predicts Gaetz. The bar’s street-facing windows are huge, allowing plenty of light and a full view of the bar and restaurant inside. At the corner of Meeting and Market streets, the restaurant will inevitably see a lot of foot traffic, and Gaetz hopes to draw just as many passersby in as possible. He adds that Belmond Charleston Place is happy to be able to offer a more casual dining experience to guests, as opposed to its more upscale options like Charleston Grill and the Thoroughbred Club.

While completed menus are still in the works, Meeting at Market’s Executive Chef Tarquino Vintimilla, formerly of CO restaurant, says that guests can expect four different menu sections — apps, salads, sandwiches and burgers, and desserts. Current offerings include a seafood board, fish n’ chips, and maple-cured bacon.
