It’s another packed week of food events.

Tonight, the COAST team, barely recovered from last night’s epic vegetarian beer dinner at Hominy Grill, will head to EVO in Park Circle for a four-course dinner. The last keg of COAST’s potent 2009 Jack Daniels barrel-aged Blackbeerd Stout will be paired up with suckling pig porchetta, dixie lee peas, and braised greens. Can you say hearty? There’ll also be butternut squash soup, local shrimp, and a pear panna cotta.

Over at the Old Village Post House in Mt. Pleasant, they’ll have live music, appetizers, and specialty cocktails made with their new Maverick Private Label Liquors, distilled by Terressentia in North Charleston. They’ve worked together to craft seven liquors, including Citrus Vodka, Berry Vodka, Slingn’ Gin, Tequila Mas Fina, Renegade Rum, and Bourbon Whiskey. The party costs $25 and goes from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Tomorrow night, Charleston Grill’s sommelier Rick Rubel will host winemaker Valter Scarbolo from the Friuli region of Italy. They’ll be tasting wines and nibbling on fare from Michelle Weaver from 5-7 p.m. Mickey Bakst tells us that Rick is extremely excited about these Friulian wines. Azienda Agricola Scarbolo is a family-operated winery located in the Friuli region of northeastern Italy that grows Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tocai Friulano, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. That event costs $35.

If you haven’t checked out Ben Berryhill’s new restaurant Next Door yet, Wednesday night offers you the perfect chance. They’ll be hosting an eight-course wine and food pairing event. It’ll be held outside on the casually chic patio and will take you on a grazing tour of their food with oyster mignonette, hand-crafted ravioli, a demitasse of coconut soup, charcuterie, shrimp and scallop spring roll, a mini smothered burger, St. Nectaire cheese and accouterments, and a mini caramel sea salt panna cotta. That’s quite a lot of tastes, and it’s a bargain at $25 per person or $40 per couple. Hopefully, it’ll be a cool night and they can get a blaze going in the fireplace.

Charleston-based food writer Holly Herrick will sign copies of her latest cookbook Tart Love at Heirloom Books on Thursday night, and she’ll have some tarts on hand to taste. That’s a free event.

Taste of Charleston heats up on Friday night with the Iron Chef Competition at the Culinary Institute of Charleston. 82 Queen’s Steven Lusby and Halls Chophouse’s Matthew Niessner will take on Red’s Icehouse’s Tomelex Copeland and Pearlz Oyster Bar’s Victoria Neikirk. The competition takes place at the Palmer Campus downtown from 6-9 p.m. General admission tickets are $25.

If you’re into food porn, you might want to take in the Lambert Gray Gallery’s debut show, Dishing It Up, which opens on Friday night with a reception from 5:30-8 p.m. Holly Herrick will be making an appearance here too, and the gallery will be filled with art from local and national artists employing an epicurean theme.

On Saturday and Sunday, there’s the massive Taste of Charleston event, which will feature food from more than 40 restaurants out at Boone Hall. But if you prefer your taste of Charleston a bit more crowd-sourced and seasonal, you might want to attend the Slow Food Potluck at Fields Farms on Sunday.

With all this stuff happening, it’d be a shame if you missed the special dinner on Sunday night at Heirloom Books. Cookbook author Virginia Willis will put together a five-course dinner ($125) that starts with shrimp rillettes and ends with bread pudding and goes lots of tasty places in between. She’s a true Southern cook, so expect charming hospitality to go along with all the great food.

Whew. I’m already full and this week hasn’t even gotten going yet.
