Thank God that social media is the wave of the future. After all the years of feeling slightly socially inept, those of us who like to chat, tweet, Facebook, and Skype are now the cool kids on the block (ahh — feels so good!).

Social Media Club Charleston is a part of an international organization that celebrates and promotes media literacy, including establishing ethics and standards in the increasingly connected world. Their first event, a panel discussion on the impact of social media, brought together more than 50 participants from some of Charleston’s most established media organizations.

This event is a little less formal, along the lines of margaritas and conversation — face to face — at Taco Boy’s newest downtown location. All social media enthusiasts are welcome to the free event on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.

Organizers include Jeff Webster of Rawle Murdy, Heather Solos of Home-Ec101.com, Jared Smith of the College of Charleston, Nick Tompkins of Patriots Point, Chad Norman of Blackbaud, and Lyn Mettler of Step Ahead, Inc.

If you want more information on the Social Media Club, check out one of their various online resources at socialmediaclub.org, #SMCCHS hashtag on Twitter, or their Facebook group page. This is one event that has certainly got us all twitterpated (couldn’t resist).
