From The State:

A bill has received key House approval prohibiting the use of fertility control agents to limit the number of deer and other wildlife. Bill proponents say the bill’s purpose is to ensure hunters have enough wildlife to shoot. Exceptions can be granted by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.

Back in my former life as a daily news man, I did a piece on one Lowcountry island using the contraceptives. The deer population had gotten to the point where they were eating the vegetation that’s planted because deers don’t eat it.

The drugs weren’t used in the past because they were hard to administer, but there have been breakthroughs in methods that are easier to implement and monitor. The movement has been led by the Humane Society, which I’d say probably has a thing or two to say about this legislation.
