No. The announcement that Jamie Lynn Spears, all of 16, is pregnant has come with an interesting side story. Lynne Spears’ book about raising her famous daughter has been “delayed indefinitely.” Personally, I don’t think she’s a bad mother for missing the fact that her daughter was having sex, but the lady should have hammered home protection whether she thought her daughter was doing it or not.
Maybe she did and Jamie Lynn didn’t listen. Maybe she preached abstenance and prayed for a miracle. Or maybe she was expecting somebody else (school, friends, television) to impart the wisdom of safe sex. When the book finally comes out, lets hope for a final chapter on what went wrong.
Then of course there’s Jamie Lynn’s advice: Wait to have sex.
“I definitely don’t think it’s something you should do; it’s better to wait,” she told the magazine. “But I can’t be judgmental because it’s a position I put myself in.”
That’s fine. We should always strive for the ideal. But considering that she’s the perfect example of when we fail to reach that ideal, how about imparting the wisdom to strap one on.
