What is it? The triumphant out-with-a-bang Spoleto end-all celebration, held on the grounds of historic Middleton Plantation.

Why see it? Middleton is an idyllic Sunday afternoon experience. Add to that a picnic and a symphony concert making its return to the enchanted Butterfly Lakes, and it’s a day for the memory books. As dusk settles, the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra, conducted by John Kennedy, will perform pieces by Aaron Copland, Todd Levin, Aaron Jay Kernis, and Philip Glass. The night is capped by a fantastic fireworks spectacular.

Who should go? Families will enjoy a day exploring Middleton’s gardens along the Ashley River, and the fireworks are always grand. Keep the orchestra in mind, though, if your kids are squeamish.
