[image-1] Having wrapped filming in Charleston over the summer, the TV adaptation of Stephen King’s Mr. Mercedes will premiere at 8pm Wednesday night on AT&T’s Audience network (ch. 239 for DirecTV customers.)
The Mr. Mercedes premiere marks the second debut in as many weeks for an adaptation of one of King’s latest serialized thrillers; Dark Tower was the top box office flick in theaters over the weekend. [content-1]From the latest trailer, Mr. Mercedes looks like a mashup of a techno-thriller like Mr. Robot (aptly named, I guess) and a rogue cop drama. The official description describes it thus: “Two years after retiring, former homicide detective Bill Hodges is still haunted by his last case. When the demented culprit begins to torment Hodges, he embarks on a crusade to bring the killer to justice.”
King said his initial inspiration for the show came while sitting in an S.C. motel watching an Ohio TV news story about crazed driver who plowed through a group of people. The full trailer (below) for Mr. Mercedes features this storyline with a signature Stephen King embellishment, a creepy clown. [content-3]Mr. Mercedes stars Harry Treadaway (Penny Dreadful), Brendan Gleeson (Braveheart), Mary Louise Parker (Weeds), and Jharrel Jerome (Moonlight). The show was adapted for TV by King and David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies) and Jack Bender (Lost) served as executive producer.
The 10-episode season airs on Audience, a AT&T/DirecTV-exclusive channel, and will wrap up in mid-October.
