He was never known as a wild-eyed radical, but here is the late, lamented Sen. Strom Thurmond endorsing a program of equitable healthcare for all Americans. If he were alive and speaking these words today, the Tea Partiers would be stoning him, but here he is in a 1973 video, with his fresh hair plugs, a strong voice and steady hand, calling for healthcare for all Americans. I only wish this had surfaced while the national debate was still going on. Maybe Henry McMaster will stumble across it and be mortified.
