Light, effervescent, and poured out of a wine bong (ie. a porron), Txakoli (cha-co-LEE) is easily our favorite summer wine. Each year around this time, a Txak Blok Txarleston event pops up to celebrate.

Last year, they took a hiatus, but on May 30, the Txacolinas are back and will be heading to King Dusko on King Street for a Basque-themed evening complete with games traditional Farmers and Fishermen games (you know, things like tug of war, stone lifting, hole drilling) and plenty of Txakoli.

Cory Burke from the Green Door will be on hand with Basque-inspired cuisine made from local ingredients, and DJ Areou will be spinning some original beats.

The big news for Txakomaniacs is that winemaker Ignacio Ameztoi of Ameztoi will be coming to Charleston for the event along with N.C.-based importer Andre Tamers.

The two experts will be judging porron pulls, so if you don’t quite know how to pour yourself a mouthful of wine using one of these traditional pitchers, you owe it to yourself to watch this video.

It’s a little tougher than this guy makes it look.

The most unique pulls will win a signed porron from Ameztoi.

Tickets are $25 and are available at King Dusko, and the event happens from 7-10 p.m. You can buy tickets here.
