Sunrise Bistro has Johns Island buzzing in anticipation of its grand opening on Tuesday. Co-owner Jessica Welenteichick says they’ve received tons of phone calls from the islanders, inquiring about the opening, job positions, and a potential bar scene.

While the Bistro, which will be open at 6 a.m. Mon.-Sat. for breakfast, isn’t offering early morning Bloody Mary’s quite yet, they do have a few other breakfast specialties to boast about like a signature open-faced omelet, eggs Benedict, crab-cakes, grit cakes, and biscuits and gravy. They’ll also be open for lunch during which their specials will vary from sushi to a seafood souffle.

Welenteichick is a Charleston native and graduated from the Culinary Institute at Carolina. Appelt joins her from New Jersey after previously owning a restaurant in Costa Rica. Together they will share the chef position, each catering to their own specialities like Welenteichick’s homemade bagels, fresh herb bread, and pastries. Sunrise Bistro can host about 48 people and has outdoor seating available if you prefer humidity over air conditioning. Welenteichick and Appelt will proudly offer locally grown produce and plan to give 10 percent of their earnings back to the Johns Island community.

Sunrise Bistro is located at the intersection of Maybank Hwy. and Bohicket Road, across the street from the Piggly Wiggly and McDonald’s.
