Billy Pope, owner of Pope Catering and former head chef of Il Cortile Del Re, wants to make finding local food convenient.

Enter Pope’s newest project, The Remedy Market.

Located on Spring Street in the former Velvet Salon, the Market offers plenty of local products, from Charleston Tea Plantation’s brews to sandwiches from the Bagel Shop­ and sweets from 3.14 Pies— in one spot.

The shop offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with an emphasis on grab-and-go for those with no time to spare. Patrons can cook dishes at home, though, as Remedy offers local produce and meats courtesy of River Run Farms, Chucktown Chicken, and more. It’s kind of like a permanent farmers’ market.

The shop is hosting an opening party/oyster roast on Sat., Nov. 13, with a follow-up party on Sat. Nov. 20.

Both customers and purveyors have a chance to meet Pope, shuck some oysters, and listen to some live bands, including Pope’s own Kumate Soiree. Oné Respé will host a medicinal workshop at the opening featuring massage therapy and acupuncture. The store has more workshops scheduled in the future. Furthering the emphasis on well-being, Pope hopes to offer some of his homemade kombucha by December.
