Tasty Thai opened Nov. 7 in the former Little Thai Too and Fuzed spot, but don’t expect this to be just another temporary King Street fixture. Tasty Thai is brought to you by the people of Taste of Thai in West Ashley, which was a Critic’s Pick for Best Fried Rice in last year’s Best of Charleston issue.

The chef-owned restaurant, run by Arun Maneejan, has a sushi bar in the front, an open food preparation setup where diners can watch their meal being prepared, and a full bar with beer, wine, liquor, and of course, sake. Maneejan chose to include sushi in the Thai menu because people who like one tend to like the other. The restaurant scooped up sushi chef David deGuia, who previously set up the sushi menus for Wasabi, Tsunami, and Bambu.

They expect to give other Thai spots like Basil a run for their money with cheap prices and heaping portions. The restaurant uses only local vendors and will feature local artists from Kulture Klash in the restaurant. They will also deliver anywhere downtown, in addition to West Ashley and Mt. Pleasant through Charleston Restaurant Runners.

Tasty Thai will host a grand opening party this Friday at 10 p.m. with music by DJs Dances with White Girls, JeffyET, CMNDer, and MACHETE.
