Today, Teach the Need — Mickey Bakst’s restaurant training program for at-risk kids — hosted a luncheon at Charleston Grill for 110 students and their 16 mentors, which includes professionals like Steve Palmer of the Indigo Road Restaurant Group and Brooks Reitz of the Ordinary.

For Bakst, the program is an essential way to connect the thriving hospitality industry with the local community. Area high schoolers are being taught that a career in the local food and beverage world is a viable option for them. The lunch not only gave the kids an opportunity to dine in a world class setting, but it also provided a behind-the-scenes tour of the hotel and restaurant operations at Charleston Place in addition to educational lessons along the way.
