A Dough Re Mi Pizzeria (1220 Ben Sawyer Blvd., 843-881-6989) in Mt. Pleasant hosts the 2009 National Slide Guitar Festival at 6 p.m. on Sat. Nov. 7. The home of the Lowcountry Blues Club is featuring Conrad Oberg, a vision-impaired 15-year-old guitarist from Jacksonville, Fla. Oberg recently participated in the 40th anniversary of Woodstock in N.Y., and he regularly performs acoustic and electric sets with his band. He recorded his first album when he was 10 years old, at Sun Studios in Memphis. His latest collection is titled Old School.

Amateur slide guitar players are also encouraged to attend and compete in a variety of categories. There is no competition/admission fee for competitors, so all should come out. Proceeds from an auction of items from Canned Heat (the only Woodstock band to feature slide guitar on stage, provided by the late Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson), Ruf Records, and Swivel Slides will benefit Charleston area Lions Club. Cover is $5 for the general public. Reservations are accepted until Nov. 4. For more information, go to slideguitarfest.com and adoughremi.com.
