Score one for James Island. Folly Road is about to get a new Thai restaurant. After spotting a sign in the former Cafe Kronic, we’ve learned that Thai Elephants Restaurant (915 Folly Road Unit Q) expects to be open next month.
Tam Perrine, the former owner of James Island’s long gone Bonsai Thai and Bonsai Thai II, is at it again with this latest business. Perrine and her business partners — including the owner of Thai Lotus in Orangeburg — plans to offer Thai cuisine and a sushi bar as well. And the restaurant will be bigger than her past enterprises seating 70-75 people.
Perrine, who moved to the U.S. from Thailand 15 years ago, says she wanted to open another restaurant on James Island because of the laid-back atmosphere. “I just love the people in this area, really friendly,” she says. “I just love that we’re close by the beach.”
