The DSS Oversight Subcommittee turned in its report on how to improve the agency this week, calling for more state funding to increase caseworkers and decrease caseloads. During a speech to Realtors on Wednesday, Gov. Nikki Haley advised group members visiting the Statehouse to “take a good shower when you leave,” a comment that left some lawmakers angry. House Speaker Jay Lucas said the governor’s “middle-school comments” could “poison the well” as the legislature works to adopt a new budget. Former Williamsburg County Sheriff Michael Johnson was sentenced to 30 months in prison by a federal judge on Wednesday for his role in an identity theft fraud scheme. Johnson is the ninth S.C. sheriff to be charged or investigated for wrongdoing since 2010. Source: The State
