[image-1]What do Cinderella, Belle, and Snow White have in common? They are all white, of course, which didn’t seem to matter until Disney decided to release a new film about a black heroine. The Princess and the Frog: An American Fairy Tale is set to premiere on Christmas Day 2009. The Independent reported that it won the support of many when the idea first came out because black Princess Tiana, the main character, was seen as an outstanding role model for girls. However, when people began to realize that nearly everyone else in the story and film crew is white, support tanked. The move smacks a bit of pandering, or worse. Bottom line: Why did it take so long for them to feature a black princess in the first place? —Caitlin Baker
