The Getaway, King Street’s new South American-inspired cabana bar, opens Wednesday

Owner Genevieve Mashburn and Chef Emily Hahn have been busy at 541 King St., the site of their new Getaway bar. From menu testing to DIY renovations, the two have put the sweat equity in over the past few months, and now Hahn tells us it’s go time. The Getaway will start serving customers Wed. Dec. 20.

As Hahn shared in September, The Getaway is her and Mashburn’s answer to a Charleston cabana bar. Both women have spent time in Latin America and The Getaway will reflect their love of travel within those countries.

“We’ll be bringing that vibe but a little bit more refined with a focus on quality ingredients and seasonality,” Mashburn said. [content-1] The menu isn’t live on the website yet, but the two have teased some dishes on Instagram and suffice it to say, Hahn, a Bravo Top Chef alum who once owned a pop-up called Empanada Mama, lives up to her name. We expect to see her creative empanadas on the menu along with plenty of Pisco Sours, Sangrias, and Caipirinhas.
