As one of the more twangy and stylish southern-rock/country bands in the Charleston area (their matching hats and Stars & Stripes/Battle Flag vests are killer), the Mason-Dixon Band stays busy playing bars, VFW halls, outdoor festivals, and charity events.

“The band is still going strong,” reports bassist and fiddler Phil Humbert. “We begin a five-month run — once a month — at Coconut Joe’s on the Isle of Palms on May 9, and plenty more gigs in the coming months.”

Humbert, singer Roddy Akers, drummer Kevin Clayton, and guitarists JR McLeod and Keith Clayton plan to record and release a 12-song collection at Studio Blacktree on John’s Island this season. Look for them at Centre Pointe Bar & Grill on Fri. May 1, and check out www.masondixonbandsc.com for more.
