The food section blog has long been dormant. Indeed, the entire food section at has been as sluggish as grandpa after Thanksgiving dinner. So, in an effort to inject some life into the thing, I’m bringing back my Eat blog.

We’ll still be reporting and writing weekly food features on the regular part of the site, but I’ll use the blog for my personal observations of the food scene with commentary on chefs, restaurants, events, and the like. Oh, and if you don’t know who I am, I’m the semi-retired editor of the City Paper. I work part time these days, but I’ve kept my hand in the proverbial cookie jar, overseeing all of the City Paper’s food coverage, attending every foodie event I possibly can, dining out with a purpose, and putting together Dish, our biannual dining guide.

For the blog, my food critics will also provide a behind-the-scenes look at the week’s restaurant review (a la Sam Sifton over at the NY TImes’s Diner’s Journal blog). I think it’s a great way to pull the curtain back so you can see our philosophy and approach to a review. And since we’ve got a couple new writers in the mix, it will also help you get to know them a bit better.

Last week’s review of Mosaic riled the folks over in Mt. Perfect, so I thought it’d be a perfect place to start. I’ll be posting Brys Stephens’ take on the review in a bit.
