After six month of business, the Rice Market, located on the corner of East Bay and Chapel, has closed. Richard Stoney could not be reached for comment, but his business partner Ben Ludzaer confirmed that the restaurant has closed.
The Rice Market had replaced the Boathouse, which was located there until early 2009. Stoney, one of the Boathouse owners, partnered with the new owners of the building to create the concept, which featured many dishes, all centered around various types of rice from across the world. The menu was crafted by Executive Chef Charles Arena, another Boathouse veteran.
Recently, the restaurant seemed to be switching up its concept, marketing itself as a meeting place with sexy ads and aggressive happy hour specials.
No word on what will happen to that space, which had been on the market for a long time after the Boathouse closed and before the Rice Market opened.
