Although it wasn’t SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY, the
North Charleston Coliseum
was packed to capacity both Friday and Saturday nights for
Monster Jam
. I have to say, I was expecting more car crushing and general mayhem … not the weak running over of cars that were already flattened. Someone pointed out that it was because the Coliseum isn’t large enough for the trucks to really go at it. The fire-breathing dragon that “ate” a Saturn sedan was still pretty cool. Saturday night at the
Pour House
, North Carolina’s
Chatham County Line
performed for Charleston bluegrass lovers. The four-piece acoustic act has enough energy, with their harmonies and foot stomping, to keep the audience engaged all night. Don’t miss them next time they come through the Lowcountry.
On Monday, College of Charleston Students participated in the fourth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Challenge. Student teams completed service missions throughout the Charleston area that benefited local nonprofit agencies, schools, and religious organizations, such as the
Boys and Girls Club
and
Water Missions International
. They then held an observance vigil, with performances by the College of Charleston Concert Choir and presentations by the student teams.
