Sometimes we all need a true enemy around which we as a society can rally and say, “You. You are just the worst.” We give you the alleged cookie thief of West Ashley.
Around 3:10 p.m. on Sunday, a troop of Girl Scouts had just finished counting their money from the day’s cookie sales. Business was good that sunny afternoon, but a chill was in the air. They had earned a reported total of $345 during the group’s shift outside of the Petco at 975 Savannah Highway, and it was time for the scouts to change shifts. That was when the unthinkable happened.
As the troop members turned their backs, a man ran up to their table, grabbed the container of cash and fled. No one on the scene was able to Tagalong with the suspect, and he made a clean getaway.
Charleston police say the Trefoil terror was described as a white man with dark tan, brown hair, wearing dark pants and a blue shirt. He is estimated to be 18-25 years old, standing 5-foot-8 to 6 feet tall.
Officers on patrol will now keep an extra-watchful eye on troops who are selling cookies outside of local businesses and will offer up suggestions to prevent any similar crimes from occurring.
