The S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce said Wednesday that the state’s jobless rate in May was 4.6%. The rate was 5% in April. There are still more than 80,000 jobs unfilled in the state. More: WCSC

Murdaugh investigation leads to reopening of hit-and-run case. It is unclear how a 2015 death of Stephen Smith of Hampton is connected to the shooting deaths of Paul Murdaugh and his mother Maggie. But the agents investigating the recent shooting deaths are now reviewing Smith’s death. His family said they thought he was beaten to death, but the coroner’s report at the time said he was struck by a passing semitruck while walking down the road after running out of gas.
