Good try, Charleston. But the Town of James Island, with the assistance of state legislators, seems to have finally struck upon a formula that ensures the patchwork community can remain incorporated.
Charleston Mayor Joe Riley, who is convinced that these people just don’t know the good thing thier missing, has been successful before in overturning the town’s incporpration. He’s convinced that he can do it again.
We are, of course, disappointed but believe that our positions are correct and therefore hope that we will prevail before the Supreme Court of the State of South Carolina.
But the legislators who crafted the James Island incorporation did so by studying closely the arguments against it in the past court decisions. In other words, the city is just about run out of arguments.
